HVAC stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. This system is responsible for heating and cooling your home and includes products such as ovens, air conditioners, heat pumps, as well as ducts, thermostats and other home comfort controls. It is a complex system consisting of three units for purposes that go hand in hand with its name: heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Increasingly popular in new construction, these systems use fresh outdoor air to provide high indoor air quality.
Ventilation is the process of replacing or exchanging air within a space. This provides better indoor air quality and involves removing moisture, smoke, odors, heat, dust, airborne bacteria, carbon dioxide and other gases, as well as temperature control and oxygen replenishment. An HVAC system will traditionally include an air conditioner (or several for commercial properties). In addition, heat pumps also work in a similar way to air conditioners.
A heat pump can cool, but it can also heat a house. In the air conditioning industry, the term HVAC is often used instead of AC. HVAC refers to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, whereas AC simply refers to air conditioning. Air conditioning is generally used when referring to systems that are designed to cool the air in your home.
Window units and central air conditioning are standard systems that are widely used. HVAC can include heat pumps and gas ovens, as well as air conditioning units.
